Support Restoration from the Ground Up

The Laguna Foundation’s native seed farm is helping address a critical need for locally adapted native seed. What began as seedlings in our nursery is now growing in the field, where native species are being cultivated for seed amplification to support restoration projects on federal lands.

Right now, the biggest need is weed control. Volunteers will spend the morning hand-pulling weeds around young native plants to help them establish and thrive. This important work directly supports the success of the seed farm and the restoration projects it will serve.

Current seed farm species include coastal tufted hair grass (Deschampsia cespitosa), seaside bird’s-foot trefoil (Hosackia gracilis), common madia (Madia elegans), coast goldenrod (Solidago spathulata), and bee plant (Scrophularia californica).

No experience is necessary—they provide training, tools, and snacks. Wear sturdy shoes, sun protection, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Volunteer activities take place outdoors and involve bending, kneeling, and working in the sun. Only heavy rain cancels.
